Sometimes new ideas come from failures. When I made this frame, I intended for it to be a full circle, but when it came out of the kiln’s first firing, there was a crack in it which resulted in a wedge breaking away. I was disappointed and would have normally tossed the bits in the rubbish but something stopped me, and instead I put the larger piece on a shelf and forgot about it for a while. Over time I got flashes of ideas for things to try with it until a few weeks ago when I finally had a full vision in my mind and was ready to glaze the frame. My vision was of a broken geode, showing layers of crystals. Suspended inside is a blue apatite crystal which is said to stimulate the mind and summon ideas and reflection.
