I love how you can look at the rings of a tree and be transported back in time. Ring by ring you can count backwards and think about what what happening in the world when it was created, vicariously experiencing the memories of the tree. Near to where I grew up there is a park that has three White Oak trees that were 50 years old when Columbus was sailing across the Atlantic – collectively they are called the Three Sisters. They fascinated me the first time I heard about and saw them as a child, and still capture my imagination to this day. What people and creatures wandered by as they began to reach up to the sky? How many generations of saplings have come from their acorns?
