Description
From the moment that humans learned to harness fire it became our night time companion, and we experienced a different dark than we know today. For millennia it was our light, heat and protection from things that go bump in the night. It became the center of the household for once the sun went down, the family would gather together around the light to work on projects and discuss the day. The dark corners and flickering shadows of that time would have been lit by moonlight and flame, drinking in all colors but black and grey, yellow and orange.
It is only recently that the cool colors of day – blues and greens have become available to us at night. Now through light bulbs, tv screens and our phones we can see all of the colors, 24 hours a day. Modern electricity and individual screens have banished both those gloomy corners and the community spirit that came from those night time fires.
